天主教普照中學(原名普照書院)是由聖母聖心會的史達生神父於１９７０年創辦。創校之初為一所全日制男子文法津貼中學。１９９６年，港鐵公司計劃興建將軍澳支線，舊校舍需要拆卸，政府撥出油塘新址予本修會興建新校，現址位於港鐵油塘站側。本校正式定名為天主教普照中學，並轉為全日制男女文法津貼中學。
